As the bright and busy days of Summer give way to the cooler, cozier days of Fall, it’s time to start thinking about your Autumn curb appeal, friends! Whether you are looking to sell your home this Fall, wanting to grace passersby with some seasonal charm, or simply wanting to enjoy your home in all its Autumn glory, here are some of my best tips for boosting your curb appeal this season!
- Adorn your front porch. Without a doubt, the front porch is the star of curb appeal in any season. This is the focal point of the exterior of your home, and the place that the eye rests. For these reasons, make your front porch the focus of your curb appeal efforts! Consider hanging an Autumnal wreath, adding some Fall-inspired linens to your porch furniture, and drawing from nature to adorn your stairs and door. Think gourds, pumpkins, pinecones, and leaves. It doesn’t have to be anything expensive or dramatic to play on that cozy, festive fall appeal!
- Trim your foliage. As leaves drop from bushes and trees in the fall, it can leave the exposed stems looking a little unsightly and ragged. Consider trimming your bushes and trees at the beginning of the season to keep everything looking neat and tidy (plus, it saves yourself an outdoor job when the weather turns colder)!
- Create a cozy outdoor space. As these mornings and evening turn cool, consider creating a cozy space outdoors to encourage sitting and sipping cider or coffee as you enjoy the changing of the seasons! If you have a firepit, consider investing in some sturdy and cozy outdoor chairs for the upcoming wiener roasts and smores-making. Or install a swing on your porch and fill it with cozy pillows and blankets for early morning reading or late evening chatting. Don’t forget to add some candles and pumpkins for that extra special autumn ambiance!
- Refresh your lighting. As the days grow shorter, you may want to invest in some updated outdoor lighting to get the maximum use and enjoyment of your outdoor space. Make sure your porch or patio especially has sufficient lighting to keep that sense of “home” and “welcome,” even on these shorter days!
- Do a Fall maintenance check! Even though home maintenance is admittedly the least glamorous aspect of curb appeal, be sure not to overlook it! Gutters that haven’t been cleaned can quickly turn into bigger and more unsightly problems. Mulching around plants not only boosts your curb appeal, but also helps to protect and insulate the soil so your plant’s roots are ready to weather whatever may come. Raking leaves not only helps your lawn look well-kept and manicured, but also keeps your grass from getting smothered by leaves and prepares it for a lush comeback in the spring.
I hope these suggestions are helpful as you prepare to boost your home’s curb appeal and relish these sweet autumn days. Happy Fall, friends!
