I love flowers, and honestly one of the first steps of great curb appeal for your home is your landscaping! This Summer life got the best of me, in a good way! My daughter was just married this past weekend, and it was such a blessed day. (Details to come in the next blog!) Because of this, my landscaping was placed on the back-burner, and I’m just starting to tackle some of it now. If any of you are in the same boat, here are some easy, and somewhat common-sense, tips to bringing some color and life to your yard and home.
First off, this heat is hard on plants and flowers in general. Some flowers that take the heat well are Amaranthus, Lily of the Nile, Celosia, Garden Cosmos, Lantana, Petunias, and Zinnias for a few. These have amazing color as well, so be sure to bring some in for a bouquet to brighten your home.
Other tasks that are needed to care for your yard will leave you sweating, but your yard lovely. Tasks like weeding your landscaping, pruning the plants that are there all year round, water your plants in the morning, monitor and take care of mid-summer insect and fungus damage, and maintain your yard by mowing at 3″. If you want to keep your yard looking green, water it once a week.
However you plan on sprucing up your yard, be safe and sensible in the heat! I’m off to mow, but please drop some more tips and tricks for landscaping in July. I would love to hear! I pray all of you have a blessed week ahead.
