Over and over and over I have heard that married couples still need to date. As the years go by, this has never been more true for Jeff and I! It can be so hard in the evenings with both of our jobs, church, volunteer opportunities, appointments, etc. to sit down and eat dinner together, but it is essential to our relationship.
However, there is something different about making a reservation at a restaurant and sitting down across from each other with our phones away, our laptops at home, and our paperwork no where to be found. That being said, I am so thankful for the wonderful restaurants in this community. I would recommend any of them, and they provide a great selection both in Peoria and in Morton.
The newest restaurant, The Forge Steakhouse in Morton, is literally BEHIND my Morton RE/MAX Traders Unlimited office. The Forge is open for lunch and dinner on Wednesday – Monday; it’s only closed on Tuesdays! Jeff and I met another couple for a double date and it was the highlight of my week. The restaurant has an amazing selection of steaks and sandwiches, and I tried the salmon – delicious! I would also recommend the Brussels sprouts which were prepared so well.
My favorite part about the restaurant however, is the history that comes with it. Our community in Morton and Peoria has constantly been growing and changing, but many of the growing opportunities are taking place in buildings with lots of history. Instead of tearing this history down, many are remodeling, and I love seeing new doors being unlocked in old buildings. The Forge used to be the Morton Blacksmith shop which opened in 1910, and some artifacts of this business still remain in the restaurant – the old barn doors, the fireplace, horseshoes, etc. It is a little flashback to the past, and it is wonderful to see the old blacksmith shop being used again. I am thankful for a community who continue to see the jewels in our surroundings! Here’s to many more date nights!
