Remodeling homes is a topic I hear of often, and speak of often! Many of my wonderful clients unlock new doors in houses with a vision in mind of remodeling. These trends of 2019 are important in the home improvement industry, and show just where the market is going.
Remodeling activity is not slowing down.
The average house on the market today is around 38 years old, and this means that many are in need of remodeling. Home prices are increasing, so many people are simply turning to remodeling, to give their home a fresh look! Experts believe that the remodeling trend will continue to rise until about 2021. This means many homes will be updated!
The lighting industry is leading the pack.
Home wellness and all-natural solutions is definitely a hot topic these days. The lighting industry has developed circadian rhythm lighting – or lighting in the home that shifts in rhythm with the sun, lessening the effects of artificial light on the human body. This is vastly becoming popular, and will continue throughout 2019!
Millennials are the ultimate diy-ers.
More and more millennials are doing home improvement on their own, making stops to places like Lowe’s, Ikea, Menards, and YouTubing instructions! Nearly a quarter of the United States population in 2018 completed home improvement tasks on their homes, and under 10% actually hired a professional. I’m not 100% how I feel about this, as professionals can complete the task more perfect and more efficient, but I do know that Lowe’s is an awesome place to go!
Over-Inspiration is another hot topic.
With websites like Pinterest, many people who begin home improvement tasks, end up regretting the outcome. Either they wish they had spent more to improve the space, or they complete the task and then wish they had completed it in a different way. The key is to spend some time on Pinterest, knowing that your space will only look 1 way, not 10, and then being sure you are in love with the remodeling idea, before you begin.
Either way, I am excited to continue to learn from my clients about home improvement, and continue to watch the trends of this market. They say a lot about the houses that will go up for sale in 2019!
