Wide open skies, roads lined with cornfields and small-town charm are some of the first things that come to mind when I think of central Illinois. With abundant natural beauty and easy access to Chicago, St. Louis and Indianapolis, there’s something that appeals to everyone. Central Illinois is one of the most family-friendly and unapologetically American places you can live. In fact, Illinois has regularly been voted as one of the top 10 States to raise a family in. That is due in great part to these three main factors:
Community values. In a world where people are increasingly more individualistic, central Illinois towns are known for embracing those old-school community values that create a vibrant and family-friendly environment. This strong community feel is woven into the very fabric of central Illinois. With lifelong friends, generational locals, and established local networks, there is a strong and deeply rooted support system that is so conducive to family raising. On top of this relational foundation, there are many local events, festivals, school functions, and charity events that are highly attended and create a sense of belonging. But maybe even more significant than all of these things is the heartbeat behind them – a willingness to look out for your neighbor, to lend a helping hand, and a spirit of generosity that shapes the culture of central Illinois. This is one of the many reasons it is a great place to raise a family!
Affordability. The cost of living in central Illinois is another huge factor in attracting and keeping families. With housing, groceries, and utility costs all sitting below the national average, central Illinois is an ideal place to raise a family while leaving some breathing room in the budget. Home prices are especially reasonable, making homeownership in central Illinois highly attainable. There are a few cities in central Illinois that regularly make the list of most affordable cities in the U.S. in real estate, and median home prices are below the national average. This means you can get more property, more house, and more “bang for your buck” than you could in many other States.
Quality education and healthcare. A lower cost of living doesn’t in any way mean a lack of amenities or facilities though. On the contrary, central Illinois is abundantly resourced with access to prestigious universities, state-of-the-art healthcare services and hospital systems, as well as historical sites, parks, recreational centers, and museums. These play a significant role in making central Illinois a welcoming place for families to come and sink their roots.
There truly is so much to love about our central Illinois community. Between the small-town culture, the comfortable cost of living, and the worldclass amenities at our fingertips, it’s not hard to see why so many families choose to stay. It is truly an honor for my team and I to live and to serve families in this special place.
