Today I want to showcase an organization that holds a very special place in our community and a meaningful role in my own life. Midwest Food Bank has been serving not only our local community, but meeting needs all around the world since its humble beginnings in 2003. Although it started in the Kieser family’s barn as a distribution center for local food pantries, it didn’t take long before the Kieser family knew they needed to expand to bless many other communities on a larger scale. The organization has evolved into what we now see as the international food distributor that Midwest Food Bank is today – with locations in Arizona, Florida, Texas, Georgia, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New England, East Africa, and Haiti, as well as three locations in our state of Illinois: Bloomington, Peoria, and Morton!
“As a faith-based organization, it is the mission of Midwest Food Bank to share the love of Christ by alleviating hunger and malnutrition locally and throughout the world and providing disaster relief; all without discrimination. Our vision is to provide industry-leading food relief to those in need while feeding them spiritually.”
With their strong mission statement and passion for others, Midwest Food Bank has quickly grown in recognition for their relief efforts in crisis situations, as well as providing for the constant, daily needs that are present in our communities. As they are a non-profit organization, volunteers are the hands and feet of this vision. It has been a privilege and blessing for me personally to volunteer at the Midwest Food Bank in Morton, and an honor to now be a member on the board. There are countless opportunities for volunteering if you are interested, as well as fun events to take part in at the Midwest Food Bank. For example, this July we have a “Taste & Tour” drive-through fundraiser event on July 16th. You can learn more on the following link – https://www.midwestfoodbank.org/tastetour – we would love to see you! There is also a golf outing in September, and the “Fun Friday” events that happen throughout the year. If you are interested in learning more about the opportunities and events at your local MFB, take a moment to visit the website! https://www.midwestfoodbank.org/
If you are looking for some ways to get involved with an amazing organization that is driven to alleviate suffering and invest in others, consider joining the family of volunteers at MFB. You can also choose to donate as well to such a great cause – 95% of every dollar given goes to straight to the mission, and this is all possible because of the amazing volunteers who give of their time. If you decide to jump in, I don’t think you’ll regret it. It has been such a highlight and a blessing for me personally, and I look forward to many more experiences and opportunities with this amazing organization in the years to come.
