This month marks the official beginning of Fall! Each season holds its own special joys, but I know I am not alone when I say that there is something especially exciting about the coming of fall. We associate it with cozy memories, the familiar scent of bonfires, comforting sweaters, soup season, and more. There are so many things to love about Autumn, and Central Illinois has its own special appeal during this season as well!
Fall in Central Illinois is magical. The weather is crisp and cool, making the out of doors even more inviting. The pumpkin patches and apple orchards are in their glory. Corn fields are golden brown, edged with trees in varying shades of orange. There’s just nothing quite like it.
For those local to the Morton/Peoria area, the Morton Pumpkin Festival is the iconic launch of all the fall festivities. It will be taking place September 11-14, and you don’t want to miss it. Morton is the pumpkin capital of the world, so this is our time to shine! The Morton Pumpkin Fest has been a key experience for our community for over 50 years and is still going strong. They have activities and fall menu items that appeal to every age, so there is something for everyone!
And if you’re the kind of person who enjoys scenic drives through the fall foliage, Central Illinois has you covered. Grandview Drive in Peoria and Peoria Heights has been dubbed “The World’s Most Beautiful Drive,” and it is in its prime during the fall season. Or if you want to get out and explore surrounded by Fall colors, our local area has some great trails to offer! The Illinois River Bluff Trail, Forest Park Nature Center, and Spring Creek Preserve are just a few noteworthy ones to check out in these upcoming months.
I’d love to hear from you guys! What are some of your favorite things about Fall in Central Illinois?
Here’s to the cozy Autumn days ahead!
