I’ve had the absolute pleasure of walking through so many of my clients’ remodels, and suddenly it was my own time for a home makeover!
It all started with a bad leak above the chimney. I noticed it one morning and went to take a closer look. There had been water sitting in the wall for a very long time the entire wall behind the fireplace was damaged – it called for new drywall, a new fireplace insert, new mantel, and more. Jeff and I braced ourselves for the massive project, and then decided to do more remodeling since our main floor would be in construction for a while anyway!
Before
I brought in some professionals to help me and give advice on the project. First, Menold Construction & Restoration did the rebuild of the fireplace mantel, the wall behind it, and remediated the water and mold damage. We ordered our fireplace insert from KBL Design and I love it! It works on remote and we have already used it so many times!! It was so cozy and warm to wrap up the winter months early this year.
Todd Vansaghi with Wood Floor Solutions came in and sanded down our white oak floors and re-stained them. The final look is beautiful and we were so pleased with his work! The shiny honey oak look is gone and I love the matte finish on my floors. I went to Shermin Williams and came home with many paint samples that I tried on my walls. I decided to go with the color Shoji White – the perfect color to brighten the space and freshen up the rooms! I had a painter help me paint all the walls. Becky Grimm then came in and installed new blinds on the windows – what a difference this made as well!
The next step was updating my furniture and decor, and Floral Designs did AMAZING work for me! The transformation they created in my home is simply beautiful. I had asked if they could use some of my basic pieces in the dining room and living room like my dining table for example, and change out the decor. I kept my table, buffet, piano, and four leather chairs, but we picked out new dining table chairs, a rattan ottoman, new pillows that totally changed the look and feel of the space, a lovely new rug that lightened the room up, new lamps and decor on the buffet, a new lamp and art work by the piano, new sconces on the back wall by the stair case, and new decor and sconces by the dining table. I also changed out the mirror in the foyer and the wonderful ladies helped me with a new arrangement on the chest. The dining and living room looked like a new space altogether and it amazed me how they accomplished this while letting me keep some of my big pieces! In the family room we were in need of new furniture and I loved what Floral Designs came up with. Kim and Ann brought back some fun pieces from their market and we ordered some amazing pieces from Rowe furniture. I love how the final look gives such a cozy feeling around the fireplace with the two new couches facing each other and the large leather ottoman in the middle. The new art work above the fireplace and the new light over the kitchen table are great new touches as well. We are still looking for some new bar stools and I still would like to change out all of the hardware on my interior doors, but other than those two things, I am loving these two rooms!
After
I could not have accomplished this makeover without a community around me that helped with advice, hard-work, and some amazing skill. It was so fun to be able to work with so many awesome professionals in my own home that I help line up for my clients! I’ve said it often and I’ll say it again – we have an amazing community of people who have so much talent! I do have to add as well, that I’m very thankful to have this huge project behind me and to live in an updated, bright, happy space.
