As rewarding as it is to help my clients “unlock new doors”, it is just as rewarding to see them thriving in their home a few years down the road. I helped this sweet couple find a new house in December of 2020, and now, two years later, I had the pleasure of seeing for myself the many ways they have made it their own.
Gene and Kim take such good care of their home, family, and everyone around them, including their dogs! Since they have been married, Gene and Kim have adopted 8 rescue dogs! It is undeniable that any dog they care for is well-loved. They currently have one named “Shorty,” and just recently adopted a puppy as well. It is such a joy to see this lovely, retired couple pour so much love and energy into their pets. This love is evident in the ways they have remodeled their space as well, making sure that this house is a home for their dogs, too!
BEFORE
When Gene and Kim bought this home on Barrington Lane, they loved it, but wanted to open it up a little bit more. To do this, they decided to tear out the wall that divided the living room from the basement stairs and the entry way/dining area. This opened up the entire main floor, and really gave them that spacious look they wanted. BluSky Restoration Contractors took the wall out and then redid the stairwell – finishing it with metal spindles. Kim purchased lighter furniture to contrast the dark oak trim that they loved and wanted to keep in the home. They also repainted the entire house, which gave it a whole new look! The finished result is really lovely and totally their style, which makes it feel like home all the more.
They not only customized the inside of their house, but the outside as well. For starters, they installed a fence for their dogs, so they can have some space to play in the great outdoors. They also added a little shed from Miller’s Storage Buildings in Arthur, IL in the back of their lot, adding some storage for their mower, and other outdoor equipment. Such a great space to enjoy some fresh air, and they love their outdoor patio for their morning coffee!
After
I loved getting a chance to visit Gene and Kim and see how their hard work has paid off. They are thriving in their new home. They already have plans for their next project: touching up the basement! Thank you, Gene and Kim, for giving me the opportunity to walk alongside you as you “unlocked new doors”. It has been such an honor!
